TMS goes against the grain with their engineering of shift knobs. Their objective is to make them as light as possible to reduce wear on the gearbox. When you shift with a heavy knob it is increased by the mechanical advantage of the shift linkage, which can over throw the shift forks and synchros, increasing wear and the possibility of a missed shift. We also eliminate rubber inserts in the knobs for the most direct feel for gear selection. An additional bonus of the TMS shift knob is temperature control. Many aftermarket shift knobs are made of heat conductive materials, such as aluminum or steel, that are a pathway for heat transfer.
