42 Draft Designs 1.8T 3" turbo-back exhaust systems combine their 3" downpipes and their 3" cat-backs for a perfect fit from turbo to tailpipe. Thanks to the modular construction of their downpipes, these turbo-back exhaust systems allow the user to switch between street series (w/cat) and race series (w/out cat) at any time.
Though the construction of 42's downpipes and cat-backs remain the same, we can discuss one feature unique to their 1.8T 3" turbo-back systems - power gains. In their extensive testing they were able to dyno test a 'typical' mk4 and measure the changes. They used a relatively stock 2002 GTI 337 edition. The car was chipped, had a cold air intake, and an aftermarket diverter valve. No other engine modifications were made to the car. Equipped with stock exhaust, they drove the car thoroughly and dyno tested it. The stock exhaust was swapped out for 42's 3" turbo-back system and the car was driven to adapt then dyno tested again. With weather conditions literally exact we measured peak gains of 22.5 hp and 48 lb/ft to the wheels! Power gains were felt all over. Boost was built faster and held out longer with the stock turbocharger. No power losses were felt at any point in the powerband. 42's 3" turbo-back systems are available in 3 tip configurations, each with unique fitment on Jetta and GTI models. The single tip GTI system includes a 4" tip designed to fit the 337/20th valance. The single tip Jetta system also includes a 4" tip. This system is designed to fit the GLI single tip valance only. The dual tip GTI and Jetta systems include a pair of 3" tips spaced to fit perfectly within the stock valance. These systems fit all models from 2001+ with the factory dual-tip valance. We also offer a hidden tip model for both GTI and Jetta models. On both systems the hidden tip dumps exhaust gases right before the start of the valance. Height and angle of the cut is designed to reduce drone and not melt the valance. The hidden tip is exposed only 1/2" below the bottom of the valance. Truely hidden.

| This is a very well fabricated exhaust. The good things I liked about this exhaust is first the price. The high flow cat and down pipe included make this exhaust a great value. The exhaust connects in 3 places and there are slots in each connection so you can position the exhaust just where you want it under the car. The sound is a nice dull noise that you can tell is there and when you give it the gas it comes to life, but is not high pitch. I am very happy with the sound. I was also surprised to see that the muffler was maglaflow, I was very happy with that. The reason i gave it 4 out of 5 and not 5 out of 5 is because the exhaust does not fit perfectly into the old exhaust route. One of the heat shields had to be removed completely and all of them had to be bent and adjusted. The center mount for the exhaust could not be hooked up properly due to the pipe not being bent just right. I was able to overcome almost all of these hickups, but the exhaust still rattles on heat shields now and then. Overall I am very pleased with the exhaust and would buy it again in a heartbeat. If i could make this exhaust perfect i would have it installed at a shop that could do minor adjustments to the bends in the pipe for a perfect fit. If you get this exhaust you will not be disapointed. later |

| "My previous vehicle was a Dodge SRT-4 which has a fairly well sorted suspension system. After 5 years of ownership and various tweaks to sway bars and bushings it handled quite sharply.
